Five students Textile and Fashion, one student Post Graduate Industrial Design, two teachers Post Graduate Industrial Design and two teachers Fine Arts of the Royal Academy of Art The Hague participate in the exhibition 'Dutch Design - Huis van Oranje' in Paleis Oranienbaum. Her Majesty Queen Beatrix and the federal president of Germany will open the exhibition at the 25th of April 2012. The palace, former home to Dutch princess 'Heriette Catharina van Anhalt-Dessau, princess of Oranje-Nassau' will be opened to the public from the 26th of April til the 30th of September 2012.

Ten photography students of both the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague and the China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing participate in the exhibition ‘Struggle’. The official opening of the exhibition in Beijing will be at the 11th of April at 15.00 hr in presence of mister Rudolf Bekink, ambassador of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in China and the opening in The Hague will be at the 18th of April at 17.00 hr in presence of mister Zhang Jun, ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in The Netherlands.

In June 2011 State Secretary Zijlstra announced a 200 million Euro governmental cuts on art and culture. As of 2013 countless art institutions and other venues to watch and show art are forced to close their doors. In recent months, cultural advocates have responded to the government's plans by means of massive protests. A collective of artists 'Platform Beeldende Kunst' present an overview of analyses and opinions on recent political developments in The Netherlands with regard to the drastic changes. Eighteen students of the Royal Academy of Art participated in a design contest for workspaces of the First Chamber. Richard Wendling, part-time student Graphic Design at the Royal Academy of Art won the first prize in the design contest 'Through time and space'.

A fresh load of third year fine art students from the KABK shows what they’re worth in arts centre De Kunstlinie in Almere

‘I am the size of what I see/ and not the size of my height.’ These are two lines from the poem ‘The Keeper of Flocks’ by Alberto Caeiro, (1889-1915), pseudonym of Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935). How much Caeiro’s aphorism is threatened, is proven by the impending closure of De Kunstlinie. This is where the students present their work in the yards of the building, work that reflects the tention between the poet’s and the artist’s experience.

Twentynine fourth years students of the Royal Academy of Art exhibit in De Regentenkamer at the Noord West Buitensingel 20 in The Hague from 13 to 17 January 2012. This exhibition, curated by Jonas Ohlsson, shows a wide range of disciplines, like video art, paintings, sculptures, installations and more. It gives a good view on the works of the newest generation of artists. There will also be several lectures about what it's like to be a young artist. Make a design for a house that fits your own identity. This was the assignment given to second year students of graphic design and interior design by their teachers, Gert Dumbar (graphic design), Paul Moor and Julian Wolse (interior design). In groups, students from the interior and graphic design departments worked together on the design and construction of their houses, which had to be made from used materials. In the workshops and in the courtyard of the academy the most beautiful, extraordinary and crazy buildings arose, made from tree trunks, car parts or pig skins.

Information about the Beroepservaringperiode

Interior Architecture

On April 5, Bureau Architectenregister presented the concept of the Beroepservaringperiode 2012 with accompanying notes. As a result of this regulation, there are additional requirements for the beroepservaringperiode (BEP.) which was recently made mandatory as part of the Wet op de architectentitel (Wat) for anyone graduating after 31 December 2014 in one of the following disciplines: architecture, urban planning, gardening and landscaping or interior. As the new regulation affects the entire profession, Bureau Architectenregister calls all students and architects, urban designers, garden and landscape architects, interior designers and other stakeholders to respond. Bureau Architectenregister is organizing five regional meetings in May 2012.

In the past week, The ArtScience Interfaculty of the KABK (Royal Academy of Art, The Hague) and the KC (Royal Conservatoire, The Hague) have formed an 'iGem team' in order to take part in the annual iGem competition. iGem is a competition of student teams that develop applications and ideas for synthetic biology, and every year about 160 teams from all around the world take part.

KABK student GITTE HENDRIKX (AUT 2) WINS TENT SECRET GARDENS PRICE! The jury (Edward Clydesdale Thomson, Wouter Venema (both artists) and Sandra Smets (NRC Handelsblad)) says: ‘The winning piece is an installation that shows an unexpected view on the theme Secret Gardens. The jury loves the esthetics and fragility. It is a work that shows us how nature is used by man, by different depictions of plants in time and in cultures. The jury liked this clever look to nature and how it becomes part of everyday life.’ The work of Gitte Hendrikx will be installed for one day in TENT May 10 2012, from 20.00h.

Jip Hilhorst wins pitch The Perfect Failure

At Thursday the 19th of April Studium Generale focused on The Perfect Failure. Uncertainty as the foundation for art, doubt as a starting point: it’s not possible to cut out uncertainty and only to keep the certainty. Doubt is not only a problem, you can also use it. Failure in art, failing is accepted, but artists rather don’t speak about it. They prefer to hide their failure.

Paul Timmer, alumnus Interior architecture and Furniture design at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague won the cultural award 'De Komeet 2012' for his idea Haags Hout. On Friday the 13th of April, he received the award of 15.000 euro from Paul Broekhoff, director Culture of the municipality of The Hague and Boudewijn de Blij, director of Fonds 1818. Paul Timmer also won the audience award.

The recently completed day-care centre Hestia received a honourable mention at this years BNA Building of the year award. The design, a result of a collaboration of Claudia Linders, head of the KABK Interior Architecture department, with NEXT architects is based at the pedagogical principles of the Reggio Emilia movement by Malaguzzi.

‘This image attracts a lot of people far away from the city to The Hague Festivals. It contains a happy, sunny and typically summer festival feeling,’ according to the head of the jury and alderman Citymarketing Marjolein de Jong. Second year Graphic Design students Kyra Hurkmans and Sabine van der Eijk designed the winning image of the sixth edition of The Hague Festivals.

Thomas en Desmond zijn aan elkaar gewaagd. Niet alleen hun deskundigheid en talent zorgen voor een gedeelde eerste plaats, ook hun verschillende benadering van de interieurarchitectuur. Dit illustreert het brede spectrum van het vak en dat je als succesvol interieurarchitect van vele markten thuis moet zijn.
